Coldplay to Headline Paralympic Closing Ceremony


    As winners of seven Grammys, Coldplay are no strangers to big shows and big crowds. But after completing their UK tour this summer, the foursome will headline the Paralympic Closing Ceremony on the 9th of September at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford.

    In a bid to shift over a million spare tickets for the ceremony, Coldplay will conclude the celebration. And with Kim Gavin, who happens to be one of the UK’s leading creative directors behind Take That’s incredible stage shows, being the brains behind the gig, it is set to be an incredible night.

    “The Closing Ceremony of the Paralympic Games is essentially a celebration of the achievements of amazing athletic endeavour of Paralympics from around the world over the previous 11 days.” Kim Gavin stated. “What better way to demonstrate our respect and commitment to these athletes than by celebrating with Britain’s most internationally renowned band.” he continued.



    The ceremony itself with start with flag-bearers and athletes, after which, the Paralympic flag will be taken down, and the next Paralympic hosts, Brazil will be raised. The Paralympic flame will then be extinguished.

    London’s organising chairman Sebastian Coe said, “Coldplay are going to be helping us celebrate not the end of a fantastic Paralympic Games, but also the end of a seven-year journey.” Today’s announcements mark the 100-day countdown to the start of the Games, which begin on the 27th of July.

     Lord Coe has predicted that the ceremony will be “spectacular” and is “delighted” that Coldplay will be headlining the bash.



     Coldplay’s frontman and lead vocalist Chris Martin described the request to headline as an “honour” and has said the band are “so happy to be involved.” “It will be one of the biggest nights of our lives and we’re very excited to try to create a performance for the last night of the Games that will close London 2012 in style.”

       The Closing Ceremony which will run from 7.30pm until 10.30pm. Ticket prices are as cheap as £5 or £10, and on sale from from www.tickets.london2012.com at 11am this morning!
