The Resurrection of Top of The Pops!


Top of The Pops is making a return to the public eye, but not in a way you know it!

    The most popular UK music chart or record sales based show of all time is making a comeback as a theatre production that will tour around the UK from October this year. The revamped, show will star famous faces from the worlds of singing and dancing, along with classic Top of the Pops performances.   



When the original show was cut from the air back in 2006 after a 42-year run from when it started out in 1964. And aside from special shows or Christmas episodes, these shows will be the first time the UK weekly top ten singles has been aired since Top of The Pops came to an end. The tour will celebrate the greatest hits of some of the biggest acts from the past.

     Think Top of The Pops 2 with a little something extra, as the show’s comeback will be produced by Flying Entertainment, the genius team that was behind the ‘Thriller Live’ stage show, so expect big! Featuring songs from different decades across the 70s, 80s and 90s, artists like T-Rex, Oasis, Coldplay, Madonna, Duran Duran, Britney Spears and Blur, the show will be variety-filled as ever. “We are delighted to have signed a licensing deal with Flying Entertainment and look forward to working with them on Top of the Pops LIVE,” said commercial director, Audio & Music BBC Worldwide Dominic Walker.

    Audiences will chose a track from a list of five options, and the most popular selection will feature in the finale of that show. Old school footage from vintage episodes of Top of The Pops will be projected onto large screens throughout the performances, which will kick off at the Congress Theatre in Eastbourne on October the 18th, until the 20th.

   Derek Nicol, as the producer and joint managing director of Flying Entertainment added: “I am delighted to be working with BBC Worldwide and Director Gary Lloyd on one of the UK’s most iconic brands. Like most people, I have nothing but fantastic memories of Top of the Pops and I look forward to delivering a great live show to audiences throughout the country, reflecting the great music that, through Top of the Pops, became the soundtrack to many of our lives.” he said.

     The Director/choreographer for the shows, Gary Lloyd added: “Bringing Top of the Pops to the stage has been an exciting process. With today's technology and using all of the iconic moments Top of the Pops brings, this show will excite audiences old and new.”
